Harry Potter and young people

The Harry Potter phenomenon is big; in fact bigger than any other publishing event. The series of seven books has been translated into 66 languages with sales of 400 million copies. Why is Harry Potter so popular among all types of young people and many parents? Does this popularity explain much about young people today? As always most children love entering the world of magic, fairy stories, escaping the limits of normality (I wasn't one of these) and readers love a fast moving tale, especially when the adventures are exotic - Cardinal George Pell
