Vatican paper condemns Italian twin abortion

The Vatican's semi-official newspaper has condemned a botched double abortion that took place recently in Milan.

L'Osservatore Romano's editorial put it that the laws of eugenics are asserting themselves.

It said: "The culture of perfection imposes the exclusion of all that does not appear beautiful, glowing, positive, captivating".

The abortion mistakenly killed a healthy twin foetus instead of her sibling with Down syndrome. After it was discovered the Down syndrome unborn baby was still alive, it too was killed.

Bishop Elio Sgreccia, president of the Pontifical Commission for Life, told Vatican Radio: "In the case that they have some sort of sickness, that simply means that they have more motive to be helped."
