Shamrocks in the bush

Before post-war immigration brought to Australia Catholics from many other nations, within the local Church there was a distinctive emerald green thread running through the fabric of Australian Catholicism. This "greening" of the Australian Church was reflected in the numbers of migrant Irish priests and religious orders, as well as the children of the Irish who swelled the ranks of local vocations. One Irish family whose contribution to the life of the Church spans more than 80 years is the O'Carrigans. The family arrived in Sydney in July 1927 and recently celebrated the 80th anniversary of their arrival - Dan McAloon
