Tassie man mission for unity

A young Tasmanian is trekking around the world on a mission of unity.

After selling his Land Rover and motorbike, 28-year-old Sam Clear embarked on a walk to help people find their spiritual side.

"My focus is to invite people to pray for unity, to offer back to God what he has given us, to help us increase our love for one another, and to search for truth,” Clear said.

Clear, who calls himself a missionary, started his journey 10-and-a-half months ago with the support of Australian-based group, the non-profit Youth Mission Team, a Catholic ministry that aims to build faith among Australia's youth.

However, Clear has no misconceptions about his adventure, and says the mission will not complete his faith.

Currently in Wyoming, US, the Aussie Rules footballer admits his journey has not been easy, The Star Tribune reported.

“It's tough and it hurts, and I've almost lost my life a few times," he said.

However, his resolve is infallible and once he reaches Alberta, Canada by foot, he plans to board a plane for Vladivostok, Russia. Then, on the coast of the Sea of Japan, he'll board the Trans-Siberian Railroad to Moscow, and finish the journey by walking to the Atlantic Ocean on the Iberian Peninsula the second week of July, 2008.

His goal is to share his message at World Youth Day in his own homeland to thousands of Catholics.

"I've been provided for in the most extensive ways that my faith's been strengthened," he said.

"It's not about success, it's about faithfulness."
