Being a Catholic in India and in Australia means very different things. As the newest missionary priest to arrive in Rockhampton, Father Rajasekhar Kodavatikanti is relishing the opportunity to experience both, reports The Morning Bulletin.
Father Raj arrived in Rockhampton last Wednesday, leaving behind a poor area in northern India which was reasonably hostile to Christianity. "It's a different experience," he said.
'Coming here, it is an utterly different ministry. (But) the church is universal. If you look at the church in India, it was not born in India, it was brought to India by many missionaries like St Thomas.'
Father Raj is one of three Indian priests who arrived in Central Queensland to assist the local parishes after meeting with Bishop Brian Heenan and Father John Grace during their trip to India in 2010.
