Nigerian archbishop abducted

Archbishop Kattey

The second most senior cleric in the Church of Nigeria, the Anglican Archbishop of the oil-rich Niger Delta Province, Ignatius Kattey, was kidnapped by armed men on September 6, reports The Tablet.

Archbishop Ignatius Kattey and his wife were abducted near their residence in the southern city of Port Harcourt.

Kidnappers abandoned the archbishop's car, in which Mrs Beatrice Kattey was also travelling, after a police chase, but the Archbishop is still missing.

Church members say they are praying for his release and will not consider paying any ransom.
