Jambaroo Abbey

Jambaroo Abbey

The Benedictine Abbey at Jambaroo is a living monastic community and tranquil retreat near Wollongong. Its website contains news and information on the Abbey and Benedictine spirituality, and information on retreats offered by the Abbey.

The sisters website explains: 'We are a Benedictine monastic community supporting one another in living the Gospel according to the spirit of St Benedict. We seek God by listening to the Word of God as it is spoken to us through the Eucharist, the Liturgy of the Hours, lectio divina (prayer with the Sacred Scriptures) and through our love for one another. The atmosphere most conducive to this listening includes a prayerful and gentle silence and some solitude.'

The abbey is set on eighty hectares of Australian bushland property, on a mountain toplooking over the NSW south coast. In 2011, ABC TV filmed a special series on life at the Abbey, and the Abbey's website contains a link to this series.
