A football-loving six-year-old who was told he could not join his friend’s Catholic school's league team in western Sydney, because he was not baptised, has won a spot in the team after an outcry, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Kim Barton was stunned when the Catholic Convents Rugby League Association put religion between her son Cruiz and the sport he loves. Ms Barton said he wanted to play for the Greystanes-based under-7s Bulldogs team with some of his friends, even though he did not attend a Catholic school.
The association did a backflip yesterday after the issue came to light when Ms Barton contacted Sydney radio station 2GB. After inquiries from The Daily Telegraph, last night the club said Cruiz would now be able to play.
