The Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart rejoice in sharing the faith vision of their Founder, Jules Chevalier.
The website explains that the spirit and charism of the Daughters as knowing that 'The gift given to Fr Chevalier and through him to us, is to see that in Jesus, God loves people with a human heart, and that he is the answer to their hopes, their questionings, their every need.'
The first five daughters to arrive in Australia, set out from France by ship in 1884 and landed at Sydney on January 31, 1885. Their destination was the missions of Oceania.
In 1886, the Daughters went to Thursday Island. Then followed more foundations in NSW. In 1905, four sisters left for Mathina in Tasmania, followed shortly after by more foundations in Tassie, including the difficult west coast.
In 1908 the first five Daughters left for Darwin. In 1916, a foundation was made in Queensland, in 1929 in Victoria, in 1947 in South Australia.
At present, Sr. Mary Fyfe, who was born and grew up in Melbourne, is the leader of our International Congregation.
