A gathering at the Opera Point Marquee in Sydney last week united more than 250 women in solidarity with women living in poverty around the world, reports The Catholic Weekly.
The inaugural Women for the World event was held just days before Mother’s Day in the 50th year of Caritas Australia. The gathering raised more than $50,000 for international aid through Caritas Australia.
Event organiser Alison Green, a Sydney mother of two, said women are essential not just to families but in the fabric of society. 'We believe women are key to making a real, long-lasting change,' she said.
'By bringing together women who are passionate about social justice and by using their networks, we can help fight poverty, promote justice and equality.'
