The Angels of LA

LA Jesuit outreach

Encounter visits the underside of Los Angeles, where former gang members have turned their backs on a life of crime and are finding a job and a sense of community through the Jesuit run Homeboy Industries.

Director Fr Gregory Boyle describes the process as 'manufacturing hope.' Also, homeless people being fed and clothed by an interfaith organisation called HopeNet talk about surviving on $23 a month, and an Episcopalian who set up church in the park amongst poor Latino immigrants describes a people hungry for community development and spiritual nourishment.
