El Salvador removes three priests after sexual abuse probe

The Church in El Salvador has removed three men from the priesthood, including the former private secretary to Archbishop Oscar Romero, after Church officials found they had sexually abused children, reports AP.

One of the priests, Fr Jesus Delgado, is one of the country's best-known priests and a former top official in the San Salvador archdiocese.

Fr Delgado served as a private secretary to assassinated Archbishop Oscar Romero, shot by in 1980 by a gunman linked to the military government, and wrote his biography.

The Archbishop of San Salvador identified the other two as Fr Francisco Galvez and Fr Antonio Molina.

Archbishop Jose Luis Escobar Alas says the girl Fr Delgado abused is now 43 and the statute of limitations on the crime has run out.
