UK Traditional Anglicans vote to accept Pope's offer

Published: November 06, 2009

The UK branch of the Traditional Anglican Communion has voted to accept Pope Benedict's offer of a personal ordinariate.

The Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) in the UK voted on October 29 to request that they form part of the proposed Ordinariate, the Telegraph reports citing the Sigma blog.

The TAC UK website reports the following resolution was passed:

"That this Assembly, representing the Traditional Anglican Communion in Great Britain, offers its joyful thanks to Pope Benedict XVI for his forthcoming Apostolic Constitution allowing the corporate reunion of Anglicans with the Holy See, and requests the Primate and College of Bishops of the Traditional Anglican Communion to take the steps necessary to implement this Constitution."

The Assembly also put forward a proposal for Ordinary in Great Britain, namely Bishop Robert Mercer.

The TAC has about twenty parishes in the UK and one in France, the Telegraph says.

  1. Of another church, including the orthodox ones that does this, it'll be called a coup d'etat, a violation of good faith.

  2. The comment by Nathan Redshield in Damien Thompon's (UK) Telegraph blog (source this site) captures the spirit of English satire of the 1066 And All That genre. Good to see that spirit alive and well in the UK media.
And a warm welcome to the TAC
