World Youth Day's latest "luxury" sponsor Mercedes Benz has jumped on board to help ferry around Pope Benedict and his entourage during his Sydney visit.
Organisers from WYD08 have welcomed the partnership, which will see Mercedes-Benz provide vehicles from its passenger car and commercial vehicle range for transporting volunteers, officials, VIPs and other dignitaries during the week-long event in July.
This latest partnership builds on the longstanding relationship between the automobile company and the Vatican.
Two Mercedes-Benz M-Class-based Popemobiles will be provided for Pope Benedict during his first visit.
WYD08 chief operating officer Danny Casery said he was excited to have such a prestigious international automotive company on board.
"Not only will Mercedes-Benz be providing the official Popemobiles, but will be supporting this with a fleet of vehicles for WYD08."
Mercedes-Benz will be providing vehicles from the passenger car range as well as commercial vehicles including buses and vans serving in specialised capacities.
Mercedes-Benz has also provided the official Journey of the Cross and Icon vehicle and trailer which is currently travelling around Australia.
