Call for volunteers for Melb WYD event

More than 600 volunteers are needed to take part in the program – TEAM DID08 – to assist in the Commissioning Mass at Telstra Dome and the mass transport movement of over 50,000 pilgrims to World Youth Day Sydney.

The Archbishop of Melbourne Denis Hart said he is overjoyed by the wonderful support given by people in the community and has put his full support behind the recruitment efforts.

“I am proud and honoured to have so many experienced, professional and willing
volunteers joining our Days in the Dioceses team and I wish them every success in the
experience and enjoyment they will gain out of this project,” Archbishop Hart said.

Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, James Merlino, said Victoria was
renowned for its strong volunteer support base.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our major events with Victoria enjoying a wonderful track record for volunteer excellence," Mr Merlino said.

World Youth Day Melbourne chief Brother Mark O’Connor said he was confident they would reach their target or recruiting 600 volunteers.
