The Australian reports that he made the remarks in a speech at Notre Dame University's Broome campus.
In 1978 the Queensland government took control of the Aurukun and Mornington Island Aboriginal reserves.
Fr Brennan said: "The recent Canberra vote shows that all major political parties in Australia now think Sir Joh was right 30 years ago."
He went on to say that, no matter which party is in power in Canberra, the real policy work for the new era will commence in earnest in 2008.
With the policy of so-called real jobs replacing the Community Development Program, he predicted there will be two classes of Aborigines in remote Australia.
