Homelessness lends itself to stereotypes. Stories in the media and
welfare groups feed the image and try to shock the wider population
into some kind of response. In my experience, homelessness is less
visible, passing us unnoticed as we walk along the street every day.
While there is some truth to the stereotyped image, "sleeping rough"
represents merely a stage for the homeless person, a kind of acute
