New Josephite Congregational Leader

Sr Anne Derwin, director of the Mary MacKillop Place Mission in North Sydney, has been elected Congregational Leader of the "Brown" Josephites in Australia.

Sister Anne's appointment was announced at the General Chapter at the weekend.

She has been elected for a term of six years and will take up her appointment early in 2008.

Sister Anne comes from the NSW Province, and for the last year she has been the Director of the Mary MacKillop Place Mission in North Sydney.

Sister Katrina Brill, the outgoing Congregational Leader, on behalf of all the Sisters, welcomed Sister Anne to her position in the Congregation and spoke of her confidence in Anne leading the Congregation at this time in Josephite history.

The challenges ahead, she said, involve "new directions for Josephite identity and mission, development in recognising the Josephite spirit and charism in others, flexibility in ways of organising ourselves and working in collaboration with others, and a deep commitment to right relationship with God, the Earth, and all peoples, especially the First Peoples of our lands".

On Sunday, the General Chapter elected the General Councillors who will work in collaboration with Sister Anne in the leadership of the Congregation. Those elected are:

- Sr Sheila McCreanor from the South Australian Province
- Sr Ann Gilroy from the New Zealand Province
- Sr Eileen Lenihan from the Region of Ireland
- Sr Annette Arnold from the Queensland Province
