Indian-born priest hopes for Cronulla racial harmony

Fr Thomas Kurunthanam could have been excused for harbouring some serious concerns about becoming parish priest at St Aloysius Gonzaga's Church, Cronulla, in Sydney. Three weeks before the 47-year-old was due to take up the appointment, violence erupted in the area with around 5000 people descending on North Cronulla Beach, chanting racist slogans and attacking people of Middle Eastern appearance.
