Lismore nurses pioneer PNG partnership

A team of aged care nurses from Lismore diocese is travelling to Port Moresby to share skills with a Papua New Guinea HIV/AIDS program.

The Catholic Care of the Aged (CCA) nurses will assist the Diocese of Bereina's Viefa Health and Nurse Training Facility and Ametur House (HIV/AIDS transit and voluntary Counselling and testing centre) in Port Moresby.

The initiative is part of the Catholic Care of the Aged's long term commitment to share its skills.

Parish Priest Fr Leo Donnelly acknowledged the team's own demanding commitments at home. In line with the Australian Bishops Social Justice Sunday statement Who is my Neighbour?, he said they are "living Jesus' message to assist those in need".

In Port Moresby, the CCA team will meet with Sr Marlene.

Sr Marlene coordinates the nurse training and HIV/AIDS Health program within the Diocese. She visited Port Macquarie in August this year as part of the exchange program developed by the St Agnes Parish community with PNG that offers assistance in education, accounting and management, finance, goods and training aids.
