The National Catholic Education Commission says that during this year’s election campaign the Coalition had committed to the same funding model for 2014, and the same funding envelope for school education over four years.
In a statement released yesterday, NCEC Executive Director Ross Fox said the commitment came after agreement on funding arrangements for Catholic schools determined by the passing of the Australian Education Act in June. 'The Australian Government is yet to advise of any detailed plans to change or review school funding arrangements beyond 2014.
'While there are aspects of this school funding model that we believe could be improved, the Coalition’s commitment has delivered important funding certainty to Catholic education.
'Any proposals to change funding arrangements would need to be carefully considered.
'Ideally schools need at least six months before a new school year to prepare for any funding changes, and any changes must improve on the funding arrangements defined in the Australian Education Act.'
'Catholic education looks forward to working with the government to ensure funding certainty for all schools well beyond 2014,' Mr Fox said.
'We will continue to work with the Government to finalise arrangements for next year.'
