The Australian Chamber Orchestra, together with the Choir of London, is mounting a series of three performances of Bach’s joyous celebration of the birth of Jesus, Christmas Oratorio.
Christmas Oratorio tells the Christmas story on a monumental scale in music often regarded as Bach at his most exuberant and joyful. Each of the work’s six cantatas celebrates an episode of the Nativity, from Christ’s birth to the arrival of the Magi.
For these performances the ACO will be joined by the Choir of London, an ensemble of world-class soloists and consort singers who performed under Richard Tognetti’s direction at Festival Maribor in Slovenia in 2010.
The three concerts, in three cities, will be performed in the week before Christmas. Each performance is approximately four hours long, including a one-hour interval.
