Brisbane's Korean Catholics pray for soul of slain woman

Community in shock

Brisbane's Korean Catholic community yesterday said a collective prayer for slain 22-year-old Eunji Ban, reports The Courier-Mail.

During the regular Sunday mass at Jubilee Catholic Church in Paddington, Father Jun Geon Ri led his congregation in a special prayer for the young woman taken too soon.

It is just more than a week since Ms Ban's battered and bloodied body was discovered in the early hours of Sunday, November 24. She had left home for the short walk to the hotel where she worked as a cleaner just 20 minutes before. A passerby discovered her body near Wickham Park.

Alex Reuben McEwan, a 19-year-old from Spring Hill, has been charged with her murder. "We wanted to support the family and pray for them," said church education officer Teresa Cho.

"(The prayer) expressed our sorrow and hope that she is comfortable in heaven. We are praying for her soul to sleep comfortably in heaven."

Up to 200 attended the service, from children too young to understand the tragedy that had hit the community to older ones still struggling to make sense of it.
