The mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor is to care for the elderly most in need. Their website outlines their spiritual mission as 'contemplatives in action,' and invites assistance from lay volunteers.

Saint Jeanne Jugan founded this respected order in France in the 19th century. The Oceania Province encompasses Australia, New Zeland, New Caledonia and Western Samoa, where the sisters have established a number of religious communities caring for the elderly.

The website says that 'If you would like to enrich your own life, and the lives of the needy elderly through volunteering, contact the home nearest you'.

The Little Sisters' website also contains information and news on their history, work and spirituality.
