Cardinal George Pell will talk about the importance of Church land in Manly next week, as guest of honour at the opening of a large estate, reports The Manly Daily.
On Friday, March 28, the outgoing Archbishop of Sydney will open the Archbishop’s Walk, which runs through the estate, and talk about the significance of the land to the Church.
It is thought this will be Cardinal Pell’s last public engagement before he flies to Rome to take up his new position as Cardinal Prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy, a post that by some accounts makes him the third most powerful Catholic in the world.
The Catholic Church owns considerable land in Manly’s Eastern Hill. As well as the International College of Hotel Management — a former seminary ‒ and St Paul’s Catholic College ‒ a boys high school ‒ much of Bower St, College St, Montpelier Place, Cerreti Cres and Fairy Bower Rd is owned by the Church and leased long-term to homeowners.
