This website presents the work of the Good Shepherd Sisters around Australia and New Zealand, who continue their mission today promoting justice, compassion, reconciliation, respect and dignity.
The Good Shepherd Sisters have been in Australia for one and a half centuries. This webpage has history, news and information on Good Shepherd spirituality and works.
The publishers of the Good Shepherd website write: 'The Good Shepherd Sisters were founded by Mary Euphrasia Pelletier, a woman of 18th century France, who had a vision of being “good shepherd” for the women who were outcast in her society.
'Mary Euphrasia’s philosophy was based on the gospel values of inclusion, nonjudgmental acceptance and transformational, unconditional love. She was innovative, bold and audacious; she was an advocate for just treatment, especially for women. She showed total commitment to her principles and mission, in a society in which women were considered inferior and without rights.
'Today, we walk in Mary Euphrasia’s footsteps. Following her example, we are committed to achieving the best outcomes for disadvantaged and marginalised women and girls, thus strengthening the whole community. Wherever possible, we do this by focusing on early intervention prior to crisis. We acknowledge that this work confronts a constellation of disadvantage often impacting on whole families and whole communities.'
