150th anniversary of Fr JJ Therry

May 24 is the 150th anniversary of the death of Father John Joseph Therry, the pioneer priest who cared for the early catholics of the Colony of New South Wales.

He was responsible for the first Catholic Chapel in this country, which he named in honour of Mary Help of Christians, now St Mary's Cathedral.

He is buried near Archbishop Polding, in St Mary's Cathedral.

The Feast of Mary Help of Christians, 24th May, 2014 will be the his 150th anniversary.
