The Society of Jesus

Australian Jesuits

Today is the feast day of the founder of the Jesuits, St Ignatius Loyola, so CN decided this was a perfect time to have a look at the website of the Jesuits in Australia.

Founded more than 450 years ago, the Society of Jesus is a religious order of priests and brothers committed to the service of the Church.

Members of the Society, known as Jesuits, are contemplatives in action. The rich tradition of Ignatian spirituality gives them a way to examine our deeper desires and discern God's plan for us in the world. Inspired by that discernment, they serve the Church wherever they see there is need.

Today, the community comprises not only Jesuits but also other men and women who share this vision of service to faith and to the justice that faith demands. Together, they continue the work of St Ignatius and his first companions, serving Jesus Christ and seeking God in all things.
