Archbishop Philip Wilson has written an open letter to the people of the Archdiocese of Adelaide expressing his determination to defend himself against the charge of concealing child sexual abuse.
In the letter, he writes that he will be taking indefinite leave from his role as Archbsihop, and other national responsibilities, to help prepare his defence. "I will have to spend considerable time out of Adelaide over the the next few months," he writes.
"I have handed over my responsibilites to my Vicar General, Father Philip Marshall."
Archbishop Wilson adds: "I ask you to pray for justice for all victims of child sex abuse in the Church and beyond. Their voices should be heard and justice must be afforded to them, as a right before God and before the community in which we live."
