CEWA director of teaching and learning, Eileen Climo, said “Vision for Learning”, which is in practicality a teaching resource for schools, combines evidence-based research with deep knowledge and understanding of how children today are learning.

“Schools will always have a belief and understanding about how students should learn, for example, with regard to literacy and numeracy,” Ms Climo said. “Vision for Learning ensures we speak with one voice and become coherent in our approach to supporting each student to reach their God-given potential.

“Significant work has taken place in developing a vision for learning that responds to the diverse needs of students in our changing educational landscape.”

With a focus on four areas – Catholic identity, education, community and stewardship – Vision for Learning works to support teachers and educators, who play an important role in bringing the vision to life.

Ms Climo said CEWA worked with national and international educational leaders, including Global Leadership director Michael Fullan from Canada and niversity of Melbourne Professor of Education John Hattie.

The Vision encourages all in Catholic education to develop in their personal relationship with Christ and their professional knowledge and skills. It also includes five practices for teachers that can lead to improved outcomes for students.

“I believe that it will assist schools in focusing on what works best in classrooms in developing students holistically,” Ms Climo said.

“Vision for Learning ensures that along with strong academic skills, children and young adults will be able to collaborate, innovate, create, appreciate and think critically within a Catholic worldview in order to be a positive influence on a rapidly changing and increasingly secular world.”
