- To open January 2019
After acquiring a greenfield site in late 2014, the Parish Priest of St Mel’s, Fr Joven Lustre, together with the Catholic Education Office Sandhurst, appointed a Project Group to help deliver on the long-held dream of a new co-educational Catholic P-12 school in Kialla in Shepparton South.
During 2015 the Project Group engaged in extensive community consultation to understand what the community was looking for in a new school. This led to the development of a Master Plan with provision for Early Childhood Education and Care, Before and After School Care, Primary and Secondary Students. The site has the capacity to cater for approximately 1400 students with stage 1 of the Master Plan catering for Foundation (Prep) and Year 7 students for the start of the 2019 school year.
The Parish chose Our Lady of Mercy College as the name for the school and this was approved by Bishop Leslie Tomlinson in October 2016.
The Project Group now seeks the Foundation Principal who will be a Catholic primary or secondary leader able to answer ‘yes’ to the following questions:
- Can you demonstrate the creativity and flexibility of thinking to respond to the emerging needs of schooling in today’s world?
- Can you lead a school community which is excited and united in their view that a greenfield site can become an innovative centre of learning?
- Do you have a track record of ongoing personal and professional learning and the capacity for P-12 thinking?
With an urban population in excess of 50,000 people and growing, Shepparton is a large regional agricultural and manufacturing city and the centre of the Goulburn Valley. Shepparton is known for its cultural diversity (there are 40 nationalities within the St Mel’s Parish) and boasts outdoor and sporting activities seldom found elsewhere. It is also just a 2-hour drive from Melbourne.
