The Sisters of Mercy Parramatta, a Catholic women’s religious order, was founded in Parramatta 1888 to serve the needs of the poor and marginalised in the areas of health, education, housing, relief of poverty and advocacy. Since foundation, the sisters have established over 40 schools across Sydney, 2 orphanages, a residential aged care facility, an employment training scheme, refugee support service and have responded to the community with many other initiatives as the needs of society evolved. Today, there are 57 religious sisters, the majority living in metropolitan Sydney. Many continue to work in ministries and are engaged in their local community.
The Sisters of Mercy Parramatta are seeking 2 suitably qualified and experienced Registered Nurses to provide wholistc care and support for the sisters, particulary those who have increasing needs in maintaining their independence. To meet these needs, the two following positions are available:
Health and Wellbeing Coordinator

With a background as a Registered Nurse, your role is to coordinate the provision of wholistic care and support for all sisters, and to work collaboratively with the Leadership Team by identifying and implementing objectives, strategies and action plans including education and communications with the sisters. This role requires the management and supervision of the Health and Wellbeing team of 4 people, but also includes hands on care provision as needed. This position is full time and is based in Parramatta. Some out of hours and on-call work may be required. Use of a motor vehicle is available during work hours.
Health and Wellbeing Registered Nurse
Position Description (PDF)
This role works in collaboration with the Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, and has a more hands-on role within the team. You will build trusted relationships with the sisters, assess their physical as well as their social and wellbeing needs, develop care plans to meet these needs, and bring any concerns requiring attention to the Coordinator and the Leadership Team. This position is full time and use of a motor vehicle is available during work hours. You will be required to meet regularly in the office in Parramatta however may be able to operate in a more mobile way depeding on where the successful candidate lives.
Essential Key Skills
- Current RN (Division 1) qualification
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence and capacity for daily travel within the role
- Relevant Experience in Community Health Care and/or Aged Care
- Skill in case management and liaison with stakeholders
- All qualifications must be maintained by the incumbent on an ongoing basis
- Uphold, through word and deed, the ethos and mission of the of Mercy Parramatta
Desirable Key Skills
- Knowledge of Quality Standards in the provision of Community Care Services, including legislative requirements and practice (Aged Care Act, Community Package Program Guidelines and Outcome Standard)
- Knowledge of issues faced by the Sisters across their lifespan
- Knowledge of, and/or experience in, the management of Acute and Chronic Mental Health issues
