Director of Formation and Mission - Sophia Education Ministries, Sydney, NSW

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role is to discern, articulate and communicate the vision and mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and its educational philosophy with responsibility for leading ongoing formation throughout Sophia Education Ministries.

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Charism

  • Understand and promote the charism, tradition and mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart and its educational philosophy
  • Discern, articulate and communicate Madeleine Sophia Barat’s vision for education in Sacred Heart schools
  • Facilitate and develop strategies which support the growth and development of the charism, values and tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart
  • Understand and communicate the calls of the General Chapters of the Society of the Sacred Heart and the strategic priorities of the ANZ province

Boards

  • Provide and evaluate an ongoing mission formation program for School Boards
  • Ensure the regular review of mission, induction and development programs for new School Board directors and new Principals
  • Provide support to the Board of Sophia Education Ministries in carrying out its ongoing formation
  • Take an active interest in relevant professional and community networks

Australia New Zealand Network of Sacred Heart Schools (ANZNet)

  • Through the Principals, liaise and partner with the schools Directors of Mission
  • Provide assistance in planning and implementing mission objectives
  • Prepare and coordinate the annual ANZNet Goals Review Meeting

  • Duchesne and Sancta Sophia university colleges (to be considered at their request)

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A personal commitment to the faith, values and mission of the Catholic Church
  • A strong commitment to the philosophy, vision and values of the Society of the Sacred Heart in Australia
  • An ability to articulate, explain and “break open” the mission and values of the Sacred Heart to a variety of audiences
  • An ability to translate the mission and values into operational plans with a record of developing strategy and implementation
  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills to build and sustain effective relationships across a broad range of key relationships
  • Experience in working collaboratively with proven negotiation skills and discernment processes
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to manage change at a senior level
  • An appropriate knowledge of theology and scripture that leads to and enhances discernment and prayer
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with ability in reporting and accountability for performance
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and manage time

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Will include relevant tertiary qualifications e.g. Scripture, Theology, Education


CONDITIONS AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Four to five day fortnight worked flexibly
  • Remuneration and conditions of employment will be negotiated with the successful applicant
  • Probation period of 6 months
  • Induction will be provided and take into account experience, background and knowledge of the Society of the Sacred Heart and its philosophy of education
  • Appointment: a three-year contract with an annual review post probation
  • Home office required
  • Responsibilities will involve extended hours: evening meetings, overnight absence and travel within the ANZ province
  • The Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 requires the successful applicant to be subject to a ‘working with children check’ as part of the employment screening process

  • Role to commence 14th October 2019
