Jesuit Refugee Service Australia has appointed Tamara Domicelj as its new director, commencing next month, to succeed Carolina Gottardo.
In announcing the appointment, JRS Australia chair Sr Annette Cunliffe RSC said Ms Domicelj brings extensive senior management experience in the not-for-profit sector to the role.
Ms Domicelj has held numerous executive and leadership positions over the last two decades and has particular expertise in refugee and asylum-seeker advocacy and support.
She has served as director of the Asylum Seekers Centre in Sydney and as national policy director of the Refugee Council of Australia. She has significant advocacy experience both within Australia and internationally.
Ms Domicelj is also the current chair of the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network’s Regional Protection Working Group.
“We look forward to Ms Domicelj joining JRS Australia in the new year and bringing skills and experience to lead and work collaboratively with our dedicated staff, supporters and volunteers,” Sr Annette said.
“JRS Australia, guided by the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus, human rights principles, gender equality and diversity, aims to consolidate and further develop our mission of service, accompaniment and advocacy for refugees and migrants in vulnerable situations into the future.”
