POSITION SUMMARY

Mater Christi College is a Catholic secondary college for girls with over 700 students including international students and over 100 staff, including 75 teaching staff.

The College Chaplain is accountable to the Faith Development Team Leader and is supported as per MCC levels of decision making. The College Chaplain is a member of the Faith Development Team and Religious Education Domain. Working relationships include:

  • Faith Development Team Leader
  • Liturgy Coordinator
  • Religious Education Domain Leader
  • Social Justice & Outreach Ministry Coordinator

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Student spiritual, academic, pastoral and community potential

  • Support the Principal and College Executive Team to develop the spiritual, academic, pastoral and community potential of all students at the College
  • Actively participate in, support and demonstrate loyalty to the leadership of the College

Learning program and activities

  • Liaise with the Faith Development Team to promote, develop and coordinate faith and spiritual in a contemporary setting
  • Work with the Faith Development Team to initiate, development and support the contemporary prayer life of the school
  • Develop and implement student faith and spiritual development activities
  • Provide and support spiritual reflection and prayer experiences for Staff and students
  • Promote issues in regard to faith and spirituality throughout the wider College community
  • Liaise with the Faith Development Team and support its goals and activities
  • Involve students in care and use of the Chapel and meditation space
  • Provide and support opportunities for students to participate in liturgical music

Policies, professional standards and legislative requirements

  • Inspired by the Rule of St Benedict and guided by agreed policies, uphold and implement professional standards and legislative requirements as expected of a College leader, teacher and all staff

Commitment to Child Safety

  • Experience working with children
  • A demonstrated understanding of child safety
  • A demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children
  • Familiarity with legal obligations relating to child safety (e.g. mandatory reporting)
  • Be a suitable person to engage in child-connected work

  • As directed by the Principal

SELECTION CRITERIA

Commitment to Catholic Education

  • A demonstrated understanding of the ethos of a Catholic school and its mission
  • A demonstrated capacity to instil in students a respect for each other in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ

Preferred Education and Qualifications

  • Current teaching qualifications and Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration
  • Accreditation to teach in a Catholic school (or be working towards such accreditation)

Skills/Attributes

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the development of spiritual and religious education experiences for all members of College community
  • Demonstrated commitment to/experience in all-girls education preferred
