Archives Manager - Sisters of Charity of Australia, Sydney, NSW

Archives Manager- Sisters of Charity of Australia

  • Lead a small team
  • Potts Point location

The Sisters of Charity of Australia are a group of women religious who serve in a variety of community ministries throughout the Eastern States of Australia, within the mission of the Catholic Church. The recently opened Sisters of Charity Heritage Centre in Potts Point incorporates in one facility an exhibition and the Congregational Archives of the Sisters of Charity. It includes an experiential display of key elements of the life and work of the Sisters of Charity in Australia.

As the current Archives Manager is retiring, an opportunity now exists for a tertiary qualified individual with experience in contemporary museum and cultural heritage management, and contemporary archival and records management to take on this key function.

You will work closely with the Heritage Centre Manager and Director of Operations, leading a team of three. Your responsibilities will include: managing the provision of archival, curatorial and records management services, and ensuring that records, which have continuing significance as authentic evidence of administrative, corporate, cultural, and intellectual activity are made, kept, and used. These are sensitive Congregational records such as administrative files, records generated by the Congregation’s associated and former entities, image collection, museum and textiles collections (including artworks), a rare book collection and a small reference library.

Due to the historical significance of the collection, the Archives Manager will also provide a range of services to the wider Church and the general public, who may have an interest in accessing the collection.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Archives Manager with a passion for history and heritage and an understanding of religious life to work with the Sisters and a small and passionate team of archivists to tell the story of the Sisters and their work.
