Inspire students to make a difference in their world by engaging their heads, hearts and hands in the critical work of international mission development. Using your natural flair for communication and storytelling, this essential position offers the chance to take a hands-on role in growing Catholic Mission’s innovative and award-nominated Socktober program in schools across the Greater Sydney region and beyond.
Socktober is Catholic Mission’s community engagement initiative connecting students across Australia with the international work of mission. With the world game of soccer as its foundation, Socktober educates students and their families on the reality of communities in need and empowers them to make a difference through innovative fundraising and advocacy.
Reporting to the Diocesan Director for the Archdiocese of Sydney, your primary duty is to engage school communities throughout Greater Sydney in our Socktober initiative, as well as engaging youth in mission and evangelisation through our other schools programs. The position will also support dioceses throughout the NSW/ACT region, which may require some travel.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
We’re looking for someone who understands and values the work of mission and who can inspire schools, students and youth to get involved through our programs, including Socktober. Your passion for our work means you can confidently and energetically express to Catholic schools, students, and youth how they, too, can help enrich the lives of children and their families who are in need around the world.
You are an exceptional and influential communicator in a variety of modes and can inspire schools and their students to engage with our meaningful work through Socktober and other programs. Ideally, you already have some familiarity with the Catholic Education Sector or other Catholic Church ministries. Tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline, like education, marketing, communications, fundraising, or sales are essential. You must be eligible to work in Australia to be considered for this role, and you will require an Australian driver’s license.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
It’s a cliché, but we’re more like a family at Catholic Mission. You will feel immediately welcome at our Lavender Bay office in a caring and supportive environment of diverse, passionate, skilled, and hardworking colleagues. You’ll join our friendly and experienced Sydney Archdiocesan team and work closely with our national staff.
We offer above-award holiday breaks, including some freebie days over Christmas, and flexible working arrangements with hybrid work from home/office options and time-in-lieu. Starting out somewhere new can be challenging, so we have a buddy program to ensure there’s always a friend to lend an ear, plus you will also have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, you will have access to professional mentoring and the opportunity for external professional development and learning to further your career.

WHO IS CATHOLIC MISSION?
Catholic Mission is the Australian agency of the international Pontifical Mission Societies. As the Pope’s international mission agency, we support children, communities, and future Church leaders by partnering with missionaries in Australia and around the world to develop and enhance their life-giving programs. For over 100 years in Australia, and 200 years globally as a part of the Pontifical Mission Societies, we have responded to the call to love God and to love our neighbour by forming individuals and communities as missionary disciples of Jesus who share their faith in action and through prayer.
