The missing swimmer feared dead off Bondi Beach after jumping into rough surf on Monday is believed to be a US student studying at the University of Sydney and living at St John's College, reports the Daily Telegraph.
The belongings of Endicott Ackerman, 20, were found close to where a man was seen jumping into rough surf wearing only board shorts on Monday, in the aftermath of the wild weekend storms.
His family in the United States has been contacted. Mr Ackerman’s Facebook profile has several photos of him at the beach.
Police made the decision to call off their search efforts on Monday night after reports a man was spotted standing on the rocks at the southern end of Bondi Beach.
Another casualty of the weekend storm was St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School at Picton, in Sydney's west, which is expected to be closed for the remainder of the school term.
