- Tenure: Fixed Term of 3 Years - Full-time
- Commencing: Mid-March 2022 (negotiable)
Context and Broad Purpose: Through 2021, Bishop Tim Harris has led Becoming New in Christ, a mission renewal journey focused on parishes, with the long term aim of moving the parish focus from maintenance to mission. A significant moment was reached with the Diocesan Assembly and the emergence of highly endorsed Recommendations. From this, the Bishop adopted six Common Directions and related strategies to guide parishes on the renewal journey ahead. The Bishop also made decisions about the allocation of available funding to support the Common Directions. The creation of the Parish Mission Support Team is an outcome of those resourcing decisions.
The Parish Mission Support Team assists the Bishop in his mission leadership responsibilities by providing high quality support and guidance for parishes in areas identified by him, in alignment with the mission and priorities of the Diocese. A priority of the Bishop is parishes taking a whole-of-parish focus on mission and the shift in general parish culture necessary to facilitate that focus.
Working with the Director Diocesan Mission Services, the Parish Mission Support Team provides vision and mission-guided leadership for the implementation of the parish Common Directions and their supporting strategies to advance the diocesan-wide parish mission renewal journey Becoming New in Christ. The Team provides priests, mission leadership teams, parish mission councils, ministry and other groups with guidance, encouragement, knowledge, clarity, formation, training, capacity building, mentoring and advice.
Working closely within and from out of the Team, the Mission Renewal Advisor role supports the parish renewal process by designing and delivering practical resources, formation and training that builds capacity in parish leadership and parishes to engage with the Common Directions and their strategies. The Mission Renewal Advisor promotes the renewal of parish culture through initiatives in evangelisation, processes for parish vision and planning, and workshops and events that enable the baptised to grow in discipleship and become new in Christ.
