  • Drive excellence in school performance, funding, child safety and regulation
  • Support the enrichment and development of the Victorian Catholic education system

The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV) seeks an outstanding candidate to provide executive leadership in the achievement of the organisation’s strategic direction as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Reporting to the CECV Board and overseeing around 50 core staff, the CEO provides strong leadership, advocacy and representation in the education sector and the wider community to enable and facilitate the positive reputation, wellbeing, growth and impact of Catholic education in Victoria. As the official spokesperson for Catholic education in Victoria at system and state level, the CEO will establish, foster and enhance collaborative and productive relationships with a wide stakeholder group, including schools, government, other education authorities and the broader community.  In addition to leading negotiations for the provision of funding and grants, the CEO will advocate for educational policy that is informed by research and analysis at a system level, and which will ensure the ongoing development, quality and continuous improvement of Catholic school performance.

A strong and decisive leader, who is able to collaborate with a diverse stakeholder group, the ideal candidate will bring a track record in executive leadership and a demonstrated understanding of the Australian Catholic education context and structures, in addition to a contemporary knowledge of educational policies and practices.  You will bring outstanding communication skills and gravitas, with the ability to lead and influence the team, and also to advocate to and negotiate with governments and other key education bodies.  Strengths in operational leadership, including strategic planning and financial literacy will be essential, as will demonstrable experience in working closely with boards and committees.

With a relevant tertiary qualification, the successful candidate will be personally aligned with the ethos, values and mission of Catholic education and to CECV values of fairness, transparency, integrity, and Christian concern for all.

The Organisation

The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV) is established by the Archbishop of Melbourne and the Bishops of the Dioceses of Ballarat, Sale, and Sandhurst as the single State Commission for Catholic school education in Victoria.  As the peak body for Catholic school education in Victoria, CECV receives and distributes funding from state and federal governments for Catholic schools and provides strategic leadership, planning and ensures proper governance in Catholic education state-wide.

CECV is responsible for sector leadership in education integrity and governance and has a Memorandum of Understanding to act as a Review Body for Catholic schools with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).  As a Review Body, CECV supports, reviews, and monitors the compliance of Catholic schools with all registration, reporting and other requirements under relevant laws and takes whatever steps are necessary in supporting Catholic Schools for the purposes of ensuring such compliance.
