The Role

The position, based in Tighes Hill, will provide support to Sisters of Mercy residing primarily in Newcastle, but will include travel to the areas of Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Singleton. Most sisters reside in the community setting with a small number living in residential aged care facilities. The primary purpose is to support the Wellbeing & Health Coordinator to monitor and plan for wellbeing and health needs into the future, develop engagement with wellbeing activities and promote healthy ageing.
The Requirements
You will have experience working in a caring role and have an understanding of the physical and social needs of others as well as the ability to support others to maintain their independence and plan for future needs.
In addition, you will support Sisters who are experiencing difficulties adjusting to the ageing process, act as an advocate with their health-related issues and promote their wellbeing, and ensure that all communication is respectful and privacy is maintained.
Skills and experience:
- Background in health, caring for others, community care, welfare, wellbeing and health.
- A strong desire to work with the elderly and promote independence
- Able to take a holistic view of a person’s wellbeing & health
- Competent written and verbal communications skills and basic computer skills.
This is a 2 year maximum term part time position working 15 hours across 3 days per week (30 hours per fortnight), with the potential for additional hours. Flexibility in work days may be required and would be highly regarded.
You will be paid an hourly rate commensurate with the requirements of the role. Please note, you will need to have a current driver’s licence and have the ability to travel to areas throughout the Hunter and Lake Macquarie regions. Travel will be required on a needs basis and in consultation with the Community Leadership and Wellbeing & Health Coordinator. A car can be provided for travel.
