Job Description

The Role

  • Develop your aged care career in a supportive, person focused environment
  • Engaging the elderly in wellbeing activities to enable them to continue living independently in their own home
  • ISMAPNG is in search of dedicated individuals who have a strong desire to work in aged care
  • The perfect role for someone with knowledge of services available in the community to support people to live at home

Working closely with the Community Leader and the Health & Wellbeing Coordinator, the primary purpose of this role is to provide person-centered and holistic support to the sisters living in Perth, whilst encouraging their strengths, independence, and autonomy.  The Sisters reside in either residential aged care or within the wider community of Perth.

It is imperative that the Sisters are receiving professional and medical support and guidance as required with the utmost respect and privacy.

The Requirements

You will need to have experience working in a similar role/caring role and will be required to accompany Sisters to medical and specialist appointments and other functions as required.  You will provide practical assistance to sisters experiencing difficulties adjusting to the ageing process and may act as an advocate with their health related issues and enable them to obtain the best medical attention.

It is essential that you are alert to the wellbeing needs of the Sisters ensuring that any decline in health be reported to the Community Leader and the Health & Wellbeing Coordinator.  Prior knowledge of My Aged Care would be advantageous.

In addition, you will be required to maintain communication with relevant nurses, allied services staff and where appropriate, Aged Care Facility Staff, regarding issues relating to the Sister’s wellbeing.

Skills and experience:

  • Aged Care, Disability, Nursing, Community Services/Welfare or similar
  • A strong desire to work with the elderly
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

This position would suit someone with a background in health, caring for others and/or community welfare, who is able to take a holistic view of a person’s health and wellbeing.  You may have been a carer for a family member or carer for children, and this would also be considered a well suited background.

This is a 12 months maximum term part time position working 10 hrs per week (2 x 5 hour shifts), with a potential for additional hours.

The position is based in the greater Perth metropolitan area and is being paid an hourly rate commensurate with the requirements of the role.  Please note, you will need to have a current driver’s licence to travel to residential and aged care homes.
