Job Description

The Role:

A unique opportunity exists for a knowledgeable Legal Counsel to work on a part/full-time basis, 4-5 days per week, for ISMAPNG located in Alphington.  You will use your sound Legal experience and your professional approach to become an integral part of a team that values working effectively and in harmony together.

Reporting to General Counsel and being a member of the Professional Standards and Legal team, the Legal Counsel provides legal advice which is tailored to the particular needs of the Institute. Being part of a small and supportive team, the role is varied – no two days are the same!

Areas of responsibility will include:

  • General Law
  • Litigation and claims
  • Commercial matters

The Organisation:

The Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG) is a Religious Institute of Catholic women who advance the reign of God by engaging in the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.  As women of mercy inspired by the gospel and their foundress, Catherine McAuley, their mission is to live hospitality, compassion and justice. Their ministries include health, aged care, education, social welfare, advocacy and environmental sustainability.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law
  • To have, or be eligible to obtain a current practising certificate
  • Attention to detail and highly developed organisational skills
  • An understanding of legal and court processes, including litigation requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to tailor communication to the intended audience
  • Self-motivation and initiative to recommend alternative methods of practice
  • Personal resilience, ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities

This position is a 2 year maximum term contract, working 4-5 days per week. An attractive salary is on offer commensurate with the role.
