The Project Support Officer will provide support to the Director of the Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace (the Office) to carry out their responsibilities as mandated by the Bishops Commission for Social Justice, Mission and Service (BCSJMS). This will include assisting the Director in promoting collaboration between the Office and the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council (ACSJC).

The role

Duties and responsibilities will include:

• Assist the Director in undertaking advocacy in the areas of social justice, ecology and peace.
• Undertake research to assist the Director to prepare documents, resources, submissions and bulletins.
• Provide assistance to the Director in their engagement with people on the peripheries.
• Organise and manage the operation of the Office online meetings, webinars and courses as well as face-to-face meetings and events.
• Design and format the Office documents and resources and manage the publication of online and print materials.
• Prepare and disseminate electronic communications to Commission justice contacts.
• Maintain the Office website and Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
• Prepare and disseminate the monthly Office electronic bulletin.

About You:

To be successful you will have:

• A proven commitment to social justice, peace and ecological responsibility
• An understanding of Catholic social teaching
• Demonstrated experience and commitment in accompanying people on the peripheries
• Demonstrated experience in community organising and political advocacy
• Ability to undertake advocacy with sensitivity and in a non-partisan way
• Ability to undertake research on social and environmental issues, evaluate the data and information, and to provide the results of this research in a coherent and soundly reasoned form
• Demonstrated experience in the Microsoft Windows operating environment and the Microsoft Office applications software
• Demonstrated experience in the use of various forms of design software
• Excellent electronic, oral and written communication skills
• An understanding of and willingness to work within the mission, identity and teachings of the Catholic Church
