About Us
The Marist Brothers is an international Catholic religious order founded in 1817 by a French Priest, St Marcellin Champagnat. Their mission is the education, care, evangelisation and support of young people.
The Star of the Sea Province (“Province”) has its headquarters in Mascot, Sydney. It encompasses eleven countries within Australasia, Pasifika, Melanesia and South-East Asia.
We are seeking an Accountant looking to take their next career step and build on their experience, to assist the Business Services Manager in the financial accounting responsibilities for Province ministries in Australia.
The Role
Reporting to the Business Services Manager, you will be responsible for a range of financial accounting functions, including processing of accounts receivables and reviewing accounts payable; preparation of monthly cash flow statements; bank account reconciliations; developing and maintaining banking relationships; reconciliation of the general ledger accounts; and corporate card accounts.
You will assist with the month-end process and preparation of financial reports, including the annual budget and annual financial reports. You will work closely with the Province auditors in relation to the audit of those financial reports.
You will prepare the monthly accounts for the Marist Brothers’ spiritualty centre, The Hermitage, (Mittagong) and will assist with requests from the Brothers’ Communities.
The role is a permanent, full-time position based at the Marist Centre in Mascot, Sydney, with flexibility to work from home up to two days a week.
Occasional travel to The Hermitage and other Province communities in Sydney and interstate will be required.
About You
You will have up to four years’ accounting experience and be eligible, or looking to work towards, professional membership of a relevant body.
You will be a team-player, have a flexible approach to work, and be able to work harmoniously with others.
You will have an understanding of and commitment to the mission of the Marist Brothers.
Specifically, as the ideal candidate you will meet the following Key Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in accounting (and eligibility for membership to CPA or ACA is desirable)
- Up to four (4) years’ relevant experience in a commercial or not-for-profit environment and sound working knowledge and understanding of financial accounting, legislative compliance, and administration practices and procedures
- Hands on management of computerised account systems (experience in using SAP B1 and MYOB would be an advantage)
- Experience with the month-end process, and analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including expense management, and relevant experience in banking, cash management or financial analysis
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Superior written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and present accounting concepts clearly to non-accounting staff
- High level of organisational and time management skills to ensure deadlines are met.
