Title:                                  Formation Team Member 

Reports to:                    Oceania Province Director of Formation

Based in:                        Melbourne Victoria or Balmain New South Wales

 

The Christian Brothers Oceania Province is a not-for-profit organisation founded on the values and charism of Edmund Rice.

The Congregation of the Christian brothers, active as the Oceania Province, participates in this Mission faithful to the charism of the founder blessed Edmund Rice with the Province currently operating in Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and the Philippines.

Mission Engagement Statement of Strategic Intent:

To empower all members of the Province community to become Edmund Rice people through formative experiences and to care for our suffering earth by implementing and embedding the goals of Laudato Si.

Position’s Purpose:

To work collaboratively with the Formation Team in planning, developing and delivering effective formation programs and experiences to Province staff and Edmund Rice Community Services (ERCS) leaders, employees, boards and volunteers in accordance with the Chapter Directions of the Congregation of Christian Brothers and act in support the Advocacy Coordinator for the Edmund Rice International (ERI).

Position Responsibilities as Formation Team member:
  1. To work with the Director of Formation and the Formation Team in providing relevant formation programs and experiences that respond to the developmental and diverse needs of Province. Position will be based either in Victoria or in New South Wales.
  2. To deepen an appreciation and contemporary understanding of the Edmund Rice charism and current Chapter
  3. To ensure all Formation experiences and programs offered to Province personnel are underpinned by a contemporary and authentic Edmund Rice spirituality grounded in the Christian Story and The Universe Story
  4. To work at times with other visiting practitioners to assist in the development and delivery of formation programs and
  5. To build relationships with Edmund Rice Communities and Province staff across Oceania through regular meetings and
  6. To join in the ongoing exploration of a contemporary and inclusive Spirituality nurtured in the charism of Edmund Rice.
  7. To support the Oceania Province Advocacy Coordinator for the ERI.
  8. Other duties as assigned by the Province Director of Formation.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities as Formation Team Member •      To work with the Formation Team to develop effective formation experiences and programs that address the diverse spirituality needs of Province personnel: staff, volunteers and board members.

•      To engage as required with external practitioners who are versed in contemporary spirituality as outlined by Congregation Chapter Directions to assist in program delivery.

•      To develop an appreciation and contemporary theological understanding of the spirit and mission of the Congregation as outlined in the recent Chapter documents.

•      To be involved in program delivery

•      To be prepared to travel to the various Regions both interstate and international in compliance with covid safety and travel restrictions

Key Responsibilities in support of the ERI Advocacy Coordinator •      Be a secondary point of contact with the ERI Team in Geneva.

•      Participate in one of the two monthly Zoom meetings. Zoom meetings specifically focusing on working with schools may also be organised in which the Advocacy Coordinator or a representative will participate.

•      To support the ERI Advocacy Coordinator prepare a 3-year Human Rights and Advocacy strategic plan for the Province.

•      Maintain contact and collaboration with participants in the Geneva training.

•      Support in Province Formation events which contribute to the ongoing education and formation of members of the Province and Edmund Rice Network about advocacy, rights-based approaches to ministry and how the mechanisms of the UN might be used.

•      Engage with ER ministries, communities, schools and partners in the gathering of information relating to human rights issues which could then form the basis of a submission for one or other of the UN mechanisms.

•      Monitor developments in human rights issues relevant to the ER Network in the countries of their Province, for example children’s rights, the right to education and sustainability/care for the earth.

 

Financial Management •      To assist with the preparation of budgets and submissions for funding is in accordance with Oceania Province policies and procedures.

•      To work within budget parameters.

Strategic Planning/Vision •      Attend, as required, meetings scheduled for Formation personnel

•      Collaborate with other appropriate Formation bodies.

•      Contribute to the update of the current Formation policies and procedures

•      To participate in the Edmund Rice Spirituality Forums

•      To engage with Edmund Rice Foundation Australia in formation support

Other Responsibilities •      To participate in the preparation of activities or Formation initiatives that lead to a deeper understanding of the charism of the Founder and foster commitment to the Edmund Rice ethos.

•      To network and liaise with other Oceania Province personnel as required

•      To assist in the communication of Formation initiatives and programs to the wider Province community, and to advocate appropriately on behalf of the Province.

•      To possess a current driver’s licence.

•      To perform other duties as assigned by the Formation Coordinator.

General •      Apply quality management and continuous improvement processes to all activities under direct control.

•      Maintain effective working relationships across various functions.

Teamwork •      Participate in team meetings as required

Mandatory Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Tertiary level qualifications in education, theology, community development, social work, or other relevant disciplines.

Applicants with postgraduate qualifications in Theology, Human Rights, Education or other relevant disciplines will be favourably considered.

Safeguarding

The Christian Brothers are committed to creating safe environments for the care and protection of children and adults at risk. The successful applicant will need to undertake a National Criminal History Check before being accepted for the position.

The position is a fixed term contract for 2-years and is a full-time position (6-month probation) commencing ideally in January 2025. Salary sacrifice options are available.
