Job Description

We are a Catholic Coeducational Secondary College with two campuses, set on approximately 20 hectares of beautiful gardens and playing fields. MacKillop is a college in the Josephite tradition, inspired by the spirit of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop; we invite passionate engagement in lifelong and authentic learning, respect diversity and support every person in the pursuit of excellence.

MacKillop is an innovative learning community offering contemporary facilities, a vibrant curriculum and supportive wellbeing programs that are respectful and responsive to the individual needs of approximately 1,730 students from Years 7-12.

About the role

MacKillop College invites applications from experienced and passionate educators for the position of Director of Catholic Identity. This is a dynamic leadership role suited to someone deeply committed to fostering contemporary, invitational expressions of faith and religious education within a vibrant Catholic school community.

The Director will work in close collaboration with the Deputy Principal: Catholic Identity and the two current Directors of Catholic Identity to promote meaningful opportunities for staff and students to engage with the theological and social teachings of the Catholic church. The role includes co-leading the College’s liturgies, retreats, and Eucharistic celebrations, while also supporting the Religious Education Leader in developing, implementing, and evaluating the theological and philosophical foundations of the Religious Education curriculum.

In addition, the Director will act as a key advisor to staff and students in the planning and participation of social justice initiatives, ensuring these activities are grounded in Catholic Social Teaching and reflective of Gospel values.

We are looking for a faith-filled educator and advocate for the Catholic mission of the College, someone who can play a crucial role in shaping how we express Catholic identity across all dimensions of school life, to deepen understanding of our tradition and provide authentic, lived experiences of faith within a contemporary context.

This is a permanent role as a Teacher, with a Position of Leadership (POL 4 + 600 minutes of release time) allocated until January 2027.  The successful applicant can commence in Term 4 2025, or Term 1, 2026.

Our ideal Candidate will have

  • a proven understanding of contemporary teaching in religious education
  • experience in leading the development of the religious education curriculum and resources
  • a passion for leading expressions of faith through prayer, liturgy and social justice initiatives
  • a commitment to the ethos of Catholic education and the charism of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
  • excellent communication skills with a recognised ability to build authentic relationships with staff, students, and families
