Diocesan Financial Administrator

Location: Toowoomba, Queensland
Tenure: Full time – 5 year fixed term contract.

 

About the Role

The Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba is seeking a highly experienced and values-driven Diocesan Financial Administrator to oversee the financial management and administration of the Diocese. This senior leadership role is central to ensuring the ongoing financial stability of the Diocese, supporting parishes and clergy, and safeguarding diocesan assets in line with both Canon and civil law.

Reporting directly to the Bishop of Toowoomba, the Diocesan Financial Administrator acts as Executive Officer of the Diocesan Finance Council and plays a critical role in financial stewardship, governance, compliance, and long-term planning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished finance professional ready to take the next step in their career and contribute to the mission of the Church in a significant leadership capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership in financial management, planning, and stewardship of diocesan assets.
  • Oversee the operations of the Diocesan Development Fund and manage investment strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all civil and Canon Law financial obligations.
  • Support clergy and parishes with financial and administrative advice.
  • Lead and mentor the Finance & Administration Office team.
  • Collaborate with the Bishop and Diocesan Finance Council on governance, policy, and risk management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • CPA or CA qualification (postgraduate finance or business studies highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated success in senior financial leadership roles in complex organisations.
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with payroll, financial reporting, and integrated financial systems.
  • Knowledge of Church administration and Canon Law (or willingness to develop).
  • Outstanding integrity, judgement, and collaborative leadership style.
