Job Description
The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference is currently recruiting for the position of National Redress Coordinator to support the National Redress Scheme. The role provides a wide range of executive support to key functions of the Conference, in particular supporting the Manager, Australian Catholic Redress and the activities of the Australian Catholic Redress Limited (ACRL).
$90,000 per annum inclusive of superannuation. Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
The Role
- Provide high‑level administrative support to ACRL staff, Directors, and related functions.
- Assist in the development of policies, guidance, and procedures, and manage incoming correspondence, including drafting responses for approval where required.
- Collate and organise information from multiple sources to support the preparation of reports and discussion papers.
- Manage the shared ACRL diary and coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements.
- Coordinate meetings, including preparing agendas, distributing papers, and drafting minutes.
- Administer notices, enquiries, and complaints under the NRS, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Monitor ACRL activities to support fulfilment of its responsibilities on behalf of participating dioceses and Catholic organisations.
- Maintain and update databases to reflect the status of NRS applications and share relevant updates with key personnel across participating entities.
- Manage the administration of quarterly invoices to the Department of Social Services, including reconciliation and issuing payment notices.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Sound understanding of the National Redress Scheme, or the ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
- Ability to provide clear, accurate and timely advice to participating dioceses and Catholic organisations on the operation of the NRS.
- Capacity to manage exposure to sensitive material through effective self‑care strategies, with a willingness to engage in employer‑supported wellbeing initiatives.
- Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated experience across a broad range of administrative duties, with the ability to work effectively in a small team with limited supervision.
- Understanding of protected information principles and the handling of sensitive information.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office environment, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint and Teams, with strong skills in Excel and Word. Familiarity with database systems and the ability to use, or quickly learn, Adobe applications.
- Excellent time‑management skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing tasks.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills.
- Strong initiative, sound judgement and effective problem‑solving abilities.
- High‑level written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
- Understanding of, and willingness to work within, the mission and identity of the Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church in Australia is served by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (the Conference), the permanent collegial assembly of the Bishops of Australia.
The NRS was created in 2018 in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The NRS acknowledges that many children were sexually abused in Australian institutions and have suffered due to the abuse they endured. The NRS holds institutions accountable for this abuse and aims to help people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse gain access to counselling and psychological services, a direct personal response, and a redress payment. The Scheme started on 1 July 2018 and will run for 10 years. ACRL has been created to interface with the Commonwealth Government and participating Catholic Church organisations to manage the NRS under the Australian Catholic Redress Limited framework.
