The Franciscan Friars are a Catholic religious order of men founded by St Francis of Assisi in 1209 who are committed to living the Gospel through service, fraternity, stewardship of creation, and care for those rendered poor. The Holy Spirit Province is part of the world-wide Franciscan Order and operates ministries and communities across Australia and New Zealand, supported by a central Province Office based in Waverley in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to lead the administrative and operational functions of the Province Office. This newly created leadership role is pivotal in building a culture of good governance, strategic planning, and professional administration, enabling the leadership to focus on core missionary priorities.

This appointment is part of a new and evolving time within the Province, and this role will be an essential part of this development of the vitality of the Province toward a more professionalised and collaborative structure that supports mission effectiveness.

Reporting to the Province Minister and Definitory (the leadership Council of the Province), and leading a small team, the Operations Manager provides leadership and coordination across administration, finance, human resources, property, compliance, risk, and support services, ensuring that the Province’s mission is enabled through strong operational foundations. As a key advisor, the Operations Manager strengthens organisational capability, supports the wellbeing of the Franciscan Friars, and enables the Province to deliver its mission with efficiency and sustainability.

This role requires sound judgment, strategic vision, and a strong capacity to balance day-to-day operational needs with long-term planning. It is ideal opportunity for a leader with a strong sense of mission and a proven ability to shape organisational culture.

The role is a full-time position and is based at the Province Office in Waverley. Some national and international travel will be required.

About You

We are seeking interest from suitably qualified candidates who would like to share in the mission of the Franciscan Friars.  Ideally, we are interested in people who meet the following Key Requirements:

• Has an appreciation for, and a demonstrated alignment with, the vision, mission and values of the Franciscan Friars.
• Experience in organisational change management or in building professional structures
• Demonstrated experiences and management skills relating to project, people and finances
• Knowledge, experience and understanding of financial systems and practices, with the capacity to oversee the Finance Office and staff
• Ability to think and act strategically, determine objectives and strategies, and move services forward by setting action plans and evaluating results
• Demonstrated experience in HR/operations and governance
• Financial and property management literacy.
